We perform a large volume of cataract surgeries, as well as LASIK procedures, using the latest Wavefront technology. We also provide refractions for new glasses prescriptions (with a large selection of stylish frames in our optical), as well as provide contact lens evaluations.

This year, we are celebrating our 83rd anniversary of taking care of our patients and their visual needs.

Dr. Hertzog Leif M. Hertzog, M.D., is a fourth-generation physician and third-generation eye surgeon. He specializes in the most modern techniques of cataract surgery and intraocular lens implantation. His particular emphasis is on PREMIUM intraocular lens implants that help to reduce, and sometimes eliminate, a person's dependence on glasses. Dr. Hertzog is very experienced with the ReSTOR® and Crystalens HD® implants, helping patients to see well post-operatively at distance and near, often without any glasses. He also implants Toric intraocular lenses, promoting better vision by eliminating astigmatism. In addition, he is well-trained in all types of laser surgery for the eye, including LASIK for nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. As a clinical instructor for the U.S.C. Department of Ophthalmology, he is heavily involved in teaching resident eye physicians the latest surgical techniques.

Surgery picture Dr. Hertzog was born and raised in Long Beach. He graduated with Highest Honors from both the undergraduate college and the medical school of Loma Linda University. He then spent four years at the prestigious Estelle Doheny Eye Institute - U.S.C. Department of Ophththalmology. He and his wife Kimberly (herself an R.N.) have 4 children, one of whom is a physician training to also become an eye surgeon.

Dr. Hertzog is a board-certified ophthalmologist who provides total eye care - medical, surgical, and optical. He and his staff strive to maintain the same excellent quality patient care that his grandfather did when he established this ophthalmology practice over 83 years ago.

Dr. Ryan Darcy C. Ryan, O.D., has been practicing with Dr. Hertzog since 2000. He performs general and specialty exams on children through adults, treats eye disease, and prescribes glasses (including prism correction for double vision) and contact lenses (including silicone hydrogels, multifocals/bifocals, torics, and rigid gas permeables).

Dr Ryan at work Dr. Ryan grew up in the small town of Kirkland Lake in Northern Ontario, Canada. He did his undergraduate studies at the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada, and then obtained his Doctor of Optometry from the Indiana University School of Optometry. His training included a 6-month rotation at the esteemed Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, one of the top eye disease hospitals in the country.

Dr. Ryan and his lovely wife Brittney, who is a Speech Therapist, happily reside in Santa Ana. They have recently added a new member to their little family -- Ella Nicole was born on August 12th, 2008. She is beautiful beyond words and is an absolute joy. The Ryans are very happy to be part of the Hertzog Eye Care family.
